Bible Society of Kenya held a successful fundraising dinner to raise funds in support of children in marginalized
areas who cannot afford to buy Bibles.
This initiative was inspired by research the Society conducted which showed that a large percentage of Kenya’s approximately 83% of Christians have never owned or cannot afford a Bible hence they are spiritually marginalized.
The Chief Guest Speaker Bishop Geoffrey Njuguna encouraged the guests to prioritize giving towards Bible work as it is an investment that will grow future generations. He highlighted that we need to spend and be spent for the advancement of the kingdom. Further, he remarked that our young people need to be exposed to God’s word so that they may not be misled by the many things they are exposed to in this current age and rather help change the moral fabric of the society.
The Board Chairman Dr. Timothy Kiruhi emphasized that BSK strives to achieve her mission of availing God’s word to all. He added that by availing the Bibles to young people, we shall see values inculcated in them. He noted that the best time to transform life is at a young age and so-called upon the attendees to embrace the chance to give towards Bibles for the marginalized children. He challenged them to learn from the Macedonian who viewed giving as worship and so gave them to God first and then gave towards Gods work generously and with joyous hearts. (2ndCor 8:3-5)
The Headmistress of Madaraka Primary School Mrs. Rachel Mulingwah thanked BSK for giving Bibles to children in her school. She remarked that she had observed positive behaviour change among the pupils since they received the Bibles. She was accompanied by a pupil who shared her testimony, “I am very thankful to BSK for giving Bibles to our school. Some pupils come from poor families and their parents do not have money to even buy a Bible. I have learned a lot about God through the Bible I received, and I pray that God will bless BSK so that it can continue being a blessing to others.” Shamim Atieno said.
We were honoured to have some of our former General Secretaries and Board Chairperson’s attending the dinner. Those in attendance included Bishop Henry Kathii, Pst. Joseph Musembi and Mrs. Rebecca Balongo, wife to former Board Chairman Rev. Wycliffe Balongo. General Secretary Mrs. Elizabeth Muriuki lauded them for the foundation they had laid in the past that has enabled BSK to continue advancing the course of the Bible.
Mrs. Muriuki also appreciated all the guests for coming for the dinner adding that their support will go a long way in ensuring that every child has a Bible.
