On July 10^th 2023, the Bible Society of Kenya took a significant step towards promoting inclusivity and accessibility by distributing 450 volumes of Braille Bibles to two remarkable educational institutions, St. Lucy’s Primary and High Schools for the Visually Impaired. 

This initiative aimed to empower visually impaired students with the ability to read and understand the word of God, while also sharing the love of Christ with these exceptional children. 

Through these Braille Bibles, BSK aims not only to provide physical access to the Word but also to nurture the spiritual growth of these young souls, thus ensuring that no child is left behind when it comes to experiencing the love of Christ through engaging in Scripture reading.

The BSK team was greeted by enthusiastic students, eager to explore the wonders of the Braille Bibles. The students’ faces lit up with joy and curiosity as they ran their fingers over the raised dots, unlocking the power of the written Word in a way they had never experienced before. 

The Braille Bibles were placed strategically in the school’s library, ensuring every student could easily access them whenever desired. The distribution of Braille Bibles to these two schools marked a significant milestone in the journey towards inclusivity and accessibility, considering that the school did not previously have any Braille Bibles. 

The Braille Bibles will not only empower the children to read and understand the Word of God but also ignite a spark of hope and inspiration in the hearts of these exceptional children. This initiative serves as a beacon of light, reminding us of the transformative power of the Scriptures and the importance of ensuring that no one is left behind on their spiritual journey. 

“This Bible will help us a lot in CRE. When we do not have classes, I will be seizing the opportunity to read the Braille Bible. This will not only help me with my school performance but will also help me through life.” Samuel Lamuria, a pupil at St. Georges Primary School

“These Bibles have come at the right time. We do not have a single Braille Bible in our school. They will go a long way in helping our learners in their subject areas and to grow spiritually and as far as discipline is concerned. As for us teachers, our work will now be easy especially when making references and as we undertake this noble task of teaching learners with visual impairments, we shall also grow both spiritually and morally.” Teacher George Wangai, St. Lucy Primary.

“It has been a challenge to request people to frequently read for us the print Bibles. Now that we have these Braille Bibles, I trust that our performance and faith with grow as well. We are highly grateful to you Bible Society of Kenya.” Sharon Njoki, St. Lucy’s High School student.

It has been such a challenge for blind learners to acquire all the necessary knowledge that they need in Braille and as pertains to CRE and growth in their faith. This is a great gift to them.
