Akichelesit Primary school pupils showing off their new Bibles

“I am happy I have a Bible today. I did not have one before even at home nobody has one. I will use it in school to work harder in C.R.E and carry it to Church. I love the story of David; he was a shepherd who became a king.’’ Roy Murunga, class 5 in Amagoro Primary School.

What was the feeling when you received your first Bible? Did you know that most of the Kenyan population cannot afford the Bible? Statistics indicate that 36% of our population including children live below the poverty line therefore, they are spiritually marginalized.

Through our Bible distribution to the marginalized project, we avail Scriptures to children from disadvantaged backgrounds so that they may acquire biblical values.

Students from Keng’elemuge Primary Schools reading their new Bibles

In the first quarter of 2020, we distributed Bibles to marginalized primary and secondary schools in seven Counties in Kenya including, Bungoma, Meru, Embu, Machakos, Murang’a, Busia and Siaya Counties. Most of the students interviewed said that they had never owned Bibles and they pledged to read the Bibles and be custodians of the same.

Mrs. Elizabeth Muriuki, the General Secretary of Bible Society of Kenya noted the goal of the exercise is to ensure that children learn God’s word from a young age. She added that the Bibles are to be used in school, Church and home hence challenged the teachers and parents to know that much is entrusted to them and much will be expected of them as stewards to nurture the children in the ways of the Lord.

Below are some testimonies from the beneficiaries.

I have never owned a Bible in my life. I am happy to receive one today from Bible Society of Kenya. I will use it to study Christian Religious Education and in Church to read the Word of God.” Ruth Simiyu, Class 5 in Mukholi Primary School, Bungoma.

“I am very grateful to the Bible Society of Kenya for gifting us with the Bibles. May God bless you. We promise to read the Word of God and Follow it.’’ Mwikali Mutie, Class 7 in Kalonzoni Primary School.

We thank our partners for their continuous generosity towards this noble cause. This impact would not have been felt without your support. May the Lord richly bless you.
