The Ateso community were excited to receive their first-ever audio Bible on October 14th, 2021 at Amagoro in Busia County.
There was tangible excitement and anticipation by the Ateso people as they eagerly awaited the launch of this Bible. The colorful event was graced by Church leaders from different denominations in Amagoro together with the Bible Society of Kenya team who were all elated to witness the great occasion.
About the Teso People
The Ateso are a Nilotic community found in Western Kenya, Busia, and Bungoma County. They speak the Iteso language and are located both in Kenya and Uganda. This community received its New Testament Bible in March 2021. The complete Bible translation is ongoing.
It was a great blessing for them to receive the audio format of the Bible in their heart language. The audio Bible has many advantages including portability which allows the user to carry and listen even when engaged in other activities. Another advantage is that if one cannot read, he/she can listen to the word, which contributes to a deeper knowledge of the word of God.
The General Secretary Mrs. Elizabeth Muriuki who was present at the event urged the guests to keep interacting with the word of God and share it with those who have not heard the good news. The community appreciated the Bible Society of Kenya for availing the audio Bibles noting that it will be a great tool of evangelism and will help them grow spiritually.
We thank God that through the Faith Comes By Hearing program, we can avail the word to different parts of the country in languages that people understand best. We have received amazing testimonies from beneficiaries of audio Bibles and look forward to seeing transformation in the Ateso community.
