Bible Society of Kenya held a successful assessment of the Open the Book (OtB) and Programme for Pastoral Instruction (PPI) programmes in Kericho County.
The meeting was attended by 24 participants drawn from eight schools and churches in the region who have been implementing the programmes.
The feedback we received indicated that learners have been participating well and both teachers and parents are involved in the spiritual development of the children. The approach of reaching the children in their individual classes as opposed to a gathering (assembly) has contributed to better understanding and assimilation of the word of God in the lives of children.
The teachers observed that telling Bible stories through OtB is interesting and interactive and children can easily internalize and apply God’s word. The two programmes have immensely contributed to character development hence minimal cases of indiscipline. Additionally, more children are going to church than before and their participation in dramatizing Bible stories has improved their confidence and self-esteem and developed their talents.
Their teachers were oriented on the upcoming OtB school competition in July 2023 so that they can start preparing children for the competition. We thank God for the children we continue to reach through His word.
