The Bible Society of Kenya held a successful fundraising dinner on October 6th, 2023, to raise funds for children in marginalized areas to access the Bible.
The evening began with a welcome from the Bible Society of Kenya General Secretary Mrs. Elizabeth Muriuki, who welcomed the guests and thanked them for their support for Bible work that has helped the Society to avail Bibles to many people. She added that the dinner aimed at raising funds to help children in marginalized children Bibles.
Mrs. Muriuki highlighted that Kenya has approximately 16 million school-going children, most of whom have never owned or cannot afford a Bible. She added that the Society reaches approximately 10,000 children from low-income families annually.
She challenged the guests to join the Society in availing Bibles to most of the children in the country who have not had a chance to discover God’s love and hope found in the Bible. In addition, the Bible is the main text they use for Christian Religious Education (CRE) in school.
The Chief Guest Speaker Rev. Joseph Obwanda quoted Prov 10:22 which says train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it. He reiterated that there needs to be an environment where our children learn God’s word. He added that children should be exposed to the Bible as it will provide them with a vision, a template of reference and the truth upon which they can stand.
He encouraged the guests to consider giving towards this noble course that will impact future generations. Further, he remarked that our young people need to be grounded in the Word so that they may not be misled by the many issues that they are exposed to in this current age.
The Head Of Business Development and Programmes Mr. Thomas Tharao thanked the guests for their attendance and support noting that the pledges and donations made would make a real difference in the lives of children around the world.
