On March 15, 2026, the Bible Society of Kenya successfully hosted a Bible trivia engagement at the Thika School for the visually impaired.
This initiative underscores our commitment to our mission: to innovatively translate, publish, and advocate for the widest engagement with the Holy Scriptures across all communities.”
Our visit reaffirmed that disability is not inability and that every learner can attain independence when the education systems are inclusive, responsive, and well-supported.
In the past, the Bible Society of Kenya has given Braille Bibles and audio Bibles to this school. The trivia, whose participants were from grades four to nine, had interacted well with the Scriptures. To our amazement, the learners responded well to the questions based on the responses they gave.
Thika School for the visually impaired was began by the Salvation Army Church in 1946. Over the years, many students have graduated and are greatly contributing to the growth of the Country and the disability sector.
We were particularly stunned by how some of the visually impaired kids could walk without any assistance and hardly trip over anything; it’s like they knew where everything was. They lived to totality without any assistance. This was indeed a true testament of God’s sovereignty, that He loves us just the way we are.
Before the trivia session began, the students presented three beautifully done songs in thanksgiving to God. The students are indeed endowed with beautiful voices. The trivia competitions were quite stiff as the participants were very well prepared. Each category of participants had a winner and a runner-up who received trophies from BSK. In addition, all the participants received an audio messenger Bible and were truly grateful to BSK for rewarding their efforts. All the learners in the school received milk, sweets, biscuits and queen cakes for being great cheer leaders to their fellow students.
The Bible Trivia was very competitive. I am happy that my team won. I thank the Bible Society of Kenya for giving us an opportunity to learn God’s word.Martin Luther Owino, Grade 7 student
I am grateful for the successful day we have had. The children engaged with Scripture very well. Each category of learners was awarded according to their performance. The audio Bibles will go a long way to help the learners deepen their studies both individually and in class during Christian Religious Education (CRE) lessons. The audio Bibles will be an easier tool for the learners to use, unlike the hard copy Bible, which was not easily read by the learners and will impact even future generations. We thank God for this great success and look forward to availing God’s word to all.
