No one wants to be a fool. We all desire to be wise, knowledgeable, and understanding.

Wisdom is a guide that helps us to navigate this world with less struggle. Wisdom entails some elements like emotional control, moral reasoning, compassion, and flexibility, among other characteristics.

We must also understand that knowledge is not wisdom. Knowledge is information, while wisdom is knowing how to apply the information practically. What we might not know is how to differentiate human wisdom and Godly wisdom. Let’s investigate all these kinds of wisdom.

Human wisdom is self- centered. It exalts us, and we find it hard to submit to God. James 3:14-16 (ESV) ‘’But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.’’ This kind of wisdom is focused on gratifying selfish desires and pride. The Bible points out that whoever trusts in their own mind is a fool.

James 3:17-18 (ESV) talks of Godly wisdom. It says that ‘’But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.’’ This wisdom is after glorifying God. It also involves sincerity, humility, and edifying other people.

The Bible in James 1:5 says, if anyone lacks wisdom, let them ask for it and it shall be given. How will this happen? ‘’And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.’’ Isaiah 11:2 (ESV). It will happen through impartation by the Holy Spirit.

The wisdom you will get will not be based on emotions and feelings, but on the character of God. Be intentional in seeking something more than Gold. Ask for Godly Wisdom every day.
