The Bible Society of Kenya joined other stakeholders at the Ole Narau Primary School Grounds in Kajiado Central Sub-County to commemorate International Literacy Day under the theme, “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity.”

The event brought together adult learners, graduates, community members, partners, and other stakeholders to celebrate the transformative power of literacy.

The Principal Secretary, Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, Mr Joseph M Motari CBS, graced the International Literacy Day celebrations. He encouraged adults who did not have an opportunity to attend formal schooling to embrace adult learning programmes, noting that literacy equips individuals with essential skills and knowledge to navigate daily life, improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

BSK was represented by Mrs. Elizabeth Muriuki, General Secretary; Mr. Thomas Tharao, Head of Business Development and Programmes; and Mr. Joseph Irungu, Literacy Programme Coordinator. Mrs Muriuki commended Ms Mercy Koki for championing literacy in the community over the past 10 years. In recognition of her outstanding contribution, BSK presented her with a Bible.

The forum provided BSK with a valuable opportunity to connect and collaborate with stakeholders committed to advancing literacy in our communities.
