The Bible Society of Kenya (BSK) recently concluded a five-day learner assessment activity from November 21st to 24th, 2024. The assessment, conducted by the BSK national office team, aimed to evaluate the literacy progress of learners in seven out of 20 targeted classes.
The selected classes were in various regions, including Loborot, KAG Soweto, Nakurio AIC Church in Kerio Valley, Katiko/Natole, Nakoriongora, Tiya, and Lokaparaparae. The assessment focused on key literacy skills such as comprehension, reading and writing fluency, and phonetic awareness, as well as integrating these skills with other subjects.
Ms. Flora Silong, HR Manager at BSK, represented the management team during the assessment. She expressed delight at witnessing the active participation of women and young girls in the literacy program. Ms. Silong emphasized the transformative power of education, encouraging learners to view it as a pathway to personal growth and informed decision-making.
Of the 608 learners who enrolled in May 2024, 590 participated in the online assessment. A significant number, 437 learners, successfully qualified to graduate as part of the 2024 cohort.
BSK is committed to empowering communities through education and literacy. We are grateful for the positive impact this programme has had on the lives of learners in Turkana County and look forward to continuing to transform lives through knowledge and God’s Word.
