The Society successfully conducted a three-day pilot Training of Trainers workshop to adapt the Young Samaritan Programme for learners with visual impairment at St. Lucy Primary School for the Blind, Igonji, Meru County. The workshop strengthened teachers’ capacity, identified priority psychosocial issues, and generated practical recommendations for inclusive programme delivery.

The training aimed at building teachers’ capacity to deliver the Young Samaritan Programme. The training brought together 34 teachers from upper primary and junior secondary levels, including totally blind and partially sighted teachers. The workshop emphasized contextualization of life-skills content for learners with visual impairment.

Challenges faced by teen learners in the school and its environs included low self-esteem, identity issues, unhealthy relationships, hopelessness, depression, poverty, weak parental support and inadequate mentorship.

Participants successfully adapted teaching approaches, facilitated practice sessions with learners, and demonstrated increased confidence in inclusive delivery. Learners actively participated during decentralized sessions.
